Calcification of the Upper Arm

Definition:
A process in which tissue or noncellular material in the upper arm becomes hardened as the result of precipitates or larger deposits of insoluble salts of calcium, especially calcium carbonate and phosphate normally occurring only in the formation of bone and teeth.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the upper arm
  • Loss of ROM in the upper arm
  • Stiffness in the upper arm
Causes:
  • Arthritis
  • Overuse
  • Faulty posture
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching exercises
  • Shoulder stabilization strengthening
  • Posture program
