Crushing Injury of the Scapula

Definition:
An injury caused by a crushing blow to the scapula is different from all other injuries in the amount and unpredictability of the damage that is caused, the amount of scar tissue and the time required for healing.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the scapula
  • Stiffness in the scapula/shoulder
  • Laceration
  • Possible fracture
  • Loss of ROM in the shoulder
Causes:
  • High speed motor vehicle accident
  • Fall
  • High speed sports injury
  • Direct blow
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching to scapula and shoulder
  • Posture program
  • Upper extremity strengthening
