Symptoms:
Pain felt directly over the injured muscle or ligament that increases with activity
Swelling in the hip

Muscle spasm
Bruising
Partial or full loss of muscle strength
Difficult or extremely painful to walk
Causes:
Accident or traumatic impact to the hip, such as a fall or direct and forceful contact (a contusion)
Overuse or overstretching of the muscles or ligaments in the hip
