Definition:
An injury to the lumbosacral joint when the joint is carried through a range of motion greater than normal, but without dislocation or fracture.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the low back
- Swelling in the low back
- Loss of ROM in the low back
Causes:
- Muscle fatigue
- Muscle imbalance
- Excessive loads
- Poor lifting postures
- Awkward lifting
- Sports injuries
- Motor vehicle accident
Treatment:
- ROM and stretching
- Soft tissue massage
- Core stabilization exercises
- Lower extremity strengthening
- Posture program
