Crushing Injury of the Hip

Definition:
An injury caused by a crushing blow to the hip is different from all other injuries in the amount and unpredictability of the damage that is caused, the amount of scar tissue and the time required for healing.
Symptoms:
  • Pain in the hip
  • Loss of ROM in the hip
  • Laceration
  • Possible fracture
Causes:
  • Motor vehicle accident
  • Direct blow
  • Heavy object falling onto hip
  • Heavy object rolling over hip
Treatment:
  • Wound care
  • ROM and stretching exercises to hip
  • Lower extremity strengthening to hip
