Villonodular Synovitis of the Hip
Definition:
Proliferation of synovial tissue of the hip, composed of synovial villi and fibrous nodules infiltrated by giant cells and macrophages.
Symptoms:
- Swelling in the hip
- Pain in the hip, especially with movement
- Sudden onset
- Loss of ROM in the hip
- Hip feels warm to touch
Causes:
- Idiopathic
- Most common in hip and knee
Treatment:
- ROM and stretching
- Lower extremity strengthening
- Ankle stabilization exercises
- Possible surgical intervention
