Stiffness in the Hip

Definition:
Nonspecific term for limited hip mobility, often due to muscle cramps and spasm accompanied by pain.
Symptoms:
  • Loss of ROM in the hip
  • Pain in the thigh, inside of the hip joint, groin, outside of the hip joint, or buttocks
Causes:
  • Labrum tear
  • Muscle sprain/strain
  • Fracture
  • Tumor
  • Avascular necrosis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tendinitis
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching exercises
  • Lower extremity strengthening
  • Core stabilization exercises
  • Gait program
