Definition:
The escape of fluid from the blood vessels or lymphatic into the foot and ankle.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the foot and ankle
- Swelling in the foot and ankle
Causes:
- Trauma
- Inflammation
- Infection
- Twisting ankle
- Direct blow to ankle or foot
Treatment:
- Massage
- Foot elevation
- Cryotherapy
- ROM and stretching exercises
- Ankle stabilization exercises
