Anterior Tibialis Tendinitis
Definition:
Inflammation of the tendons attached to the anterior tibialis.
Symptoms:
- Pain in front of the shin, ankle, and foot
- Pain with walking, running, or kicking an object with toes pointed
- Point tender on the anterior tibialis
Causes:
- Excessive walking or running
- Repetitive kicking an object with toes pointed
- Excessive rubbing of tight shoe laces over the anterior tibialis
- Tightness in calves or anterior tibialis
- Muscle weakness in lower leg
- Improper gait or running mechanics
Treatment:
- Soft tissue massage and stretching
- Ankle ROM
- Calf stretching
- Correct gait and running mechanics
- Exercises to improve strength and balance
