Posterior Tibialis Tendinitis

Definition:
Inflammation of the posterior tibialis tendons.
Symptoms:
  • Fallen arch
  • Pain in the medial ankle
  • Swelling in the medial ankle
  • Pain worse with activities
  • Pain with walking or standing
  • Point tender with palpation to the medial ankle
Causes:
  • Overuse- high-impact sports, such as basketball, tennis, or soccer
  • Muscle imbalance
  • Degeneration
Treatment:
  • Soft tissue massage
  • ROM and stretching
  • Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Lower extremity strengthening
