Flexor Hallucis Longus Tendinitis
Definition:
Inflammation of the tendons attached to the flexor hallucis longus.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the inner ankle and travels into big toe
- Pain with running, jumping, hopping
- Stiffness in the mornings
- Point tender on tendon
Causes:
- Repetitive toe flexion (Ballet dancers)
- Traumatic high force toe extension
- Gradual wear and tear
- Excessive running
Treatment:
- ROM and stretching exercises
- Soft tissue massage
- Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
- Calf stretching
