Extensor Digitorum Longus Tendinitis

Definition:
Inflammation of the tendons attached to the extensor digitorum longus.
Symptoms:
  • Pain on the top of the foot
  • Pain worse with running
  • Swelling on the top of the foot
  • Pain with curling toes
Causes:
  • Overuse
  • Badly fitting shoes
  • Faulty gait pattern
  • Tight calf muscles
  • Excessive running
Treatment:
  • ROM and stretching exercises
  • Foot intrinsic muscle strengthening
  • Gait pattern correction
  • Running pattern correction
